Dear Filmmakers, Friends and Followers,

On behalf of the Hollywood Black Film Festival, it is with a heavy heart that I’d like to express our sadness over the passing of ourHBFF Alum, writer-director-producer & actor, Chadwick Boseman.
It was 2008 when Chadwick’s short film “Blood Over a Broken Pawn” won the HBFF Jury Award Honorable Mention for Shorts.
Chadwick Boseman wrote, directed, executive produced, and edited the film about how a Brooklyn coffee shop owner, traumatized by a violent robbery, lashes out against an innocent kid, and stumbles into a dangerous confrontation with a chess-master, kingpin.
His genius and multiple talents were apparent back then, even before he became known to the world as a great actor.
Chadwick, you forever be in our hearts. Your masterful and brilliant talents will forever be remembered, shining brightly in film.
Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all that knew and loved him.

Warmly,

Tanya Kersey
